Japanese Print Exhibit

Blue Sunset by Sanae Yamamoto

Curating a show of contemporary Japanese printmakers was not something that ever occurred to me. It started with a comment by Tracy Templeton, head of the printmaking department of Indiana University, about an amazing group of international printmakers who would like to show more in the states. A couple of months later I mentioned it to India Fratus of Liberty Arts Gallery and, “Boom!”, it was on the calendar, and I was curating. Scrambling, I contacted Tracy who connected me to Sanae Yamamoto who graciously agreed to work with us.

The work is stunning, demonstrating a variety of intaglio and relief processes as well as lithography and silkscreen The exhibition includes 42 prints created by 17 well known Japanese print makers. and will be up until January 12th, at Liberty Arts, Yreka, CA., 108 West Miner Street . The gallery is just off of the I-5 corridor so if you are traveling for the holidays, stop by and check it out. Gallery hours are, Wednesday & Thursday, 11 - 4, Friday & Saturday, 10-4
